Your location and searches
OpenPause asks for your position only after you press “Near me” and your browser grants permission. Your exact position stays in this tab to centre the map and calculate approximate straight-line distances. It is not saved, sent as a separate coordinate field, added to directions links or sent to analytics. If you load the surrounding map area, an approximate rounded map envelope is sent to Overpass. Denying location permission leaves manual search available.
Map tiles are requested from OpenStreetMap, which receives your IP address and can infer the area you view. Leaflet is loaded from unpkg. When you submit a search, your search text is sent directly from your browser to the public Photon service run by komoot; Photon also receives the ordinary network information needed for a web request, such as your IP address. When you select “Load this area”, rounded bounds for that area are sent directly from your browser to Overpass. These bounds describe an approximate area and may reveal where you are exploring.
Search responses are kept temporarily in this tab’s memory only: up to eight Photon searches for 24 hours and three Overpass areas for one hour. Closing or reloading the tab clears this cache. There is no OpenPause server-side query cache, account, analytics, advertising, tracking cookie, location history or automatic background refresh. Normal hosting and third-party access logs may still record requests. Map tiles use the provider’s ordinary HTTP cache.
What the data means
Places come from OpenStreetMap contributors under ODbL, retrieved through Overpass. Search uses Photon, also based on OSM. OpenStreetMap standard map tiles carry visible attribution. This is not a complete or on-site verified database. Coverage and tag quality differ between areas. Photon and Overpass are public services that may be slow, unavailable or rate-limited; their own policies and logs apply.
Water entries use drinking-water tags; a generic fountain without declared drinking water is excluded. Toilets, benches and picnic tables with explicitly private or restricted access are excluded. Places whose access is not documented are labelled accordingly. Cost, opening hours and accessibility appear only when the source contains them. The wheelchair and free filters require explicit wheelchair=yes and fee=no tags; unknown information does not qualify. A source survey or check date is a contributor declaration, not a visit or verification by OpenPause.
External services and corrections
Walking directions open Google Maps with the selected destination only. Google may separately request your position according to its policies. Reporting a missing or incorrect place opens your email application addressed to the contact already used by gioelebranda.ch; sending the email is your choice. No exact location or search history is automatically attached. You can inspect a place’s original OSM entry and contribute corrections through OpenStreetMap.

Posizione e ricerche
I luoghi provengono dai contributori OpenStreetMap, con licenza ODbL, tramite Overpass.
